Gwyneth Zakaib

Spark Studio Guide

A mom to two young girls, Gwyneth has always been passionate about fostering kids’ natural love of learning. She studied cello and neuroscience at the University of Maryland, but found the most joy in teaching an afternoon music class for preschoolers on campus. That led her to pursue a Master’s Degree in kinesiology studying brain development. After graduating, she wanted to combine her love of science with writing, so she completed a yearlong graduate program in science journalism at the University of California at Santa Cruz. She delighted in writing about ocean animals, environmental issues, and university research. After brief stints writing for NPR, Science News, and Nature, she then spent nine years covering the brain. However, unsatisfied with the solitary life of a writer, she started leading an outdoor play class at her local park. She rediscovered her true passion for working with kids. Later, in researching schools for her preschool-aged daughter, Gwyneth found TVS and decided it would be an ideal next step for them both. Gwyneth is a Montessori trained guide who loves helping our youngest learners discover the world around them.
