The future belongs to those who can do what technology cannot.

At The Village School, we prepare PreK-8 learners for a future where human creativity and critical thinking matter most. While technology can instantly provide information, your child’s real advantage comes from developing uniquely human skills: asking thoughtful questions, solving complex problems creatively, and understanding themselves and others. Through hands-on projects that connect subjects around real-world challenges, plenty of play that honors childhood, and mastery-based learning that celebrates your child’s unique strengths, we build both the critical thinking skills and strong character that will serve them throughout life.

  • We attract educators who are passionate about continuous growth and dedicated to mastering their profession.

  • We call students “learners” and teachers “guides” because it creates space for co-creation and agency rather than control and compliance.

  • Play is the work of children of all ages. We preserve childhood through play, from kindergarten through 8th grade.

  • TVS learners opt in to one standardized test each year and score an average of 1.5 grade levels above their peers (without taking any other tests all year!) Standardized test data is just one data point in the story of their growth over time.

  • What other schools offer to 18 year olds, we offer to 11 year olds—because we believe young people are more capable than the world gives them credit for.

TVS FAST FACTS

What our Learners (and Parents) are Saying

  • "I'm extremely grateful that my parents sent me here. I think when I first attended a learner-led school, I was like, what am I doing? This is not gonna help me at all. Now I realize it has significantly changed me. The drive to actually want to learn definitely came from TVS, and I'm so grateful that my parents gave me the opportunity. Not only has TVS helped me in high school, but I also think TVS has helped me in life.

    —Elly, Class of 2025

  • "Not to be cheesy, but like the love of learning thing is real. Almost all of Alexas's teachers in our [parent-teacher] conferences with 7 people in a row, almost all of Alexa's teachers said some variant of, I can tell that my subject is her favorite. I can tell she really loves biology. Okay, no, she has a passion for Spanish. And it's like, you know what? Great. But I think, you know, it was a genuine love of learning, and the teachers could see that. That's from TVS.".

    - Katherine, TVS Parent of Alexa Class of 2025

  • "When my friends are sad or dreading going to school, I can’t relate. I really love it at school. I think that TVS really helped with that because even though there was a learning part of TVS, there was also a social part of TVS that I really learned to love, too. Because I was not really a people person, but then over my time at TVS, I started understanding what each person could uniquely bring to the table if I gave you a chance. "

What is The Village School’s approach to AI?

In an AI world, your child's advantage isn't in memorizing facts—it's knowing how to learn, adapt, and think critically. That’s why we’ve developed what we call Humentic Learning™—Human+Authentic—an approach that guides young people to follow their curiosity, apply critical thinking to real-world problems, and create solutions that emerge from their own original insights and self-understanding. TVS graduates leave having developed uniquely human skills, such as grit and self-awareness—keys to success in whatever path they choose.

The Village School Head of Learning Design, Dr. Elizabeth Dean, talks to Neil Chilson, Head of AI Policy about AI and the future of education.
