Session 2 Sneak Peek
Spark Studio
This session, we're diving into All Things Fall! We'll explore our guiding question, "How can Fall teach us about change in our community?' through circle discussions and hands-on activities. Learners will also use their five senses to experience Fall up close: learning about different types of leaves, pumpkin designs, leaf pressing, and even making shadow art with sticks, acorns, and anything else we can find on our nature walk!
We're also heading out for some Fall adventure for our field trip to Cox Farms, where learners will learn about farming, harvesting, and meet the animals. Spark will end the session with a miniature pumpkin and candy corn stem challenge.
Discovery Studio
Project
Get ready to become marine scientists and explore the mysteries of our ocean! This session’s project will take Discovery learners on an incredible voyage from the surface waves all the way down to the deepest, darkest depths of the sea, where they’ll discover amazing creatures, conduct real scientific experiments, and become ocean conservation heroes. Learners will take an independent deep dive, researching their biggest curiosities surrounding the ocean. By the end of this project, learners will understand ocean ecosystems like a scientist, think like a conservationist, and maybe even discover their next passion!
Writer’s Workshop
In Writer’s Workshop, Discovery will explore fables and how they teach important morals. As we read examples of fables, learners will collaborate to design their criteria for an excellent fable. They will brainstorm, outline, and draft their own fables, using ocean animals as characters in their story. By the end of the session, learners will have written their own fables with an important life lesson that they will share with one another and our community.
Adventure Studio
Project:
Ever wonder if you can afford your weekly Starbucks frappuccino and the newest Touchland mist? What about your dream apartment and a new pair of Crocs? This session, you’ll find out! We will explore the world of money, learning how to create our own monthly budgets, navigate surprise expenses when life happens, and even get advice from financial analysts. By the end, learners will have a better idea of their own financial goals, taking into account what is important to them, while balancing the needs of life.
Communications:
Should everyone have free access to clean water? What about education or healthcare? This session, learners will dig deep into their own values to answer the big question: What should be free? We'll research real-world issues like economic inequality, build powerful arguments backed by evidence, and become advocates for change. In the end, our final pieces will be submitted to actual publications, giving learners the chance to share their voices and ideas with readers in the immediate community and beyond.
Health & Wellness
“Grace in its simplest form is the manner in which we value ourselves…It is looking in that mirror! I believe it is a deep, spirit-filled self-awareness, a sense of one’s personhood, a humble knowing of the wonder of one’s humanity. Courtesy: the manner in which we respect the beings of others…It is who we are to each other, who we must be to each other.” - Pat Ludick on Grace & Courtesy
This session in Health & Wellness, we will continue exploring who we are—this time through the lens of Grace & Courtesy, a cornerstone of the Montessori approach. Together, we’ll reflect on how we greet others and welcome guests into our shared spaces. Learners will practice moving mindfully through our studios and hallways and will role-play how to engage in thoughtful, respectful conversations with friends and adults. We’re looking forward to discovering the art of grace and courtesy in action!
