Session 3 Sneak Peek

SPARK STUDIO

In this session, learners will explore the question, “What do humans need to survive and thrive in their communities?” They will step into the role of young explorers and problem-solvers as they embark on their very own Survivor Quest. Learners will put their survival skills to the test as they consider what they might do in various scenarios.

Spark learners will learn and practice safety strategies, explore how to stay safe in hot and cold weather, and discover why clean water, food, and teamwork are important for survival. We'll also take a field trip to Madison Manor Park, where learners will build a shelter and create a safe space for themselves.

DISCOVERY STUDIO

In this session's Writers Workshop, learners will write a blog post about an experience they have had so far in the school year. They will read examples of blog posts, draft and revise their work before sharing their blogs with the studio. At the end of the session, some of the learner-written blogs will be highlighted on the TVS blog!

In this session’s project, learners will explore how music supports and enhances emotional wellbeing as they design instruments and create sounds using their bodies. Through hands-on activities, they will have the chance to experiment, move, and build meaningful connections through music. Between investigating and making instruments, collaborating through music and art, and getting in tune with their emotions through music, we hope every learner will see how music can be a way to express our emotions.

ADVENTURE STUDIO

In this session’s DIY Historian Communications project, learners will dive into a historical topic of their choosing. They’ll research, write, and design their own Civilizations Challenge to stretch the thinking of their peers and families, sharing their DIY Civs at the End of Session Exhibition.

In this 3-week genetics Project, learners will become “genetic detectives” exploring the question: What makes you you? Through hands-on labs and interactive challenges, they’ll investigate heredity from Mendel’s pea plants to modern CRISPR tools while tackling real-world ethical dilemmas. Their journey will culminate in a community exhibition where they’ll share their discoveries and spark conversations about the future of genetic engineering.

HEALTH & WELLNESS

Welcome back for session 3! This session, Spark and Discovery learners will dive into what makes a healthy friendship - how they begin, how they grow overtime, and how we take care of them along the way. Learners will partner up for fun games and activities designed to help them connect with someone new in the studio - maybe someone they haven’t played with before. Together, we’ll reflect on what it means to make everyone feel welcome and included.

In Adventure this session, the learners will explore the power of circles - circles of trust, community circles, and peace circles. We’ll explore the different types of circles, why they exist, and the roles that each person plays in making them work. Through practicing circles, we’ll focus on communication skills and how these skills make circles so meaningful. Together, we’ll discover how active listening, learning from one another, building belonging, and showing empathy can strengthen trust in each other and trust in our community.
